I was always a bit amused and annoyed by people who worried about our [The Senate's] legitimacy -- we are not elected. I have been called a bastard more than once, but I was never troubled about our legitimacy. 35th Parliament
The scenario has LaPorte say odious things about Bourassa. I quote:

I believe sincerely that this bill is illegitimate. It is a bastard bill.
I thought the hon. member from Chambly stated his argument in very colorful fashion by calling this a bastard bill. Rather it is intravenous feeding of the bill rather than a bastard bill.
We do not want any more bastard bills that affect the legitimacy of what we are doing.
Our friend from Sheffard says that this is a bastard, illegitimate law and is undemocratic legislation.

Tonight I looked up the definition "bastard" and found the definition interesting. The dictionary said things like "counterfeit" and "improper" and "unauthorized". This Bill C-52 is bastard legislation.

It took enough time to bring forth a bastard white elephant, the result of the budgets of two Finance Ministers. 32nd Parliament

That is the lazy bastard theory of social welfare, the feeling that the only people obtaining assistance are the socially incompetent.
Today the government is trying to legitimize it's bastard child, which was conceived -- ill conceived -- some time ago.
Anyhow, Mr. Speaker, this legislation the consideration of which we are about to conclude is nothing but the bastard offspring of Bill C-83 ... the death of Bill C-83 was a great victory.
I do not use this word disrespectfully, but in the Anglo-Saxon term it seems to me to be sort of a bastard organization.
Whether the result of that marriage will be a bastard, or a child of some consequence, I do not know as yet; but it is going to throw some burden upon the Chair.
It is either one thing or the other; we cannot have this bastard arrangement that exists in the present bill along with the recommendation that is on the order paper and which is also part of the bill.
